Spring Fling

Most of the quilts I work on are complicated and intricate; I like a good challenge.  But, this past weekend I went away for my guild’s Spring Fling, 3 days of basically non-stop sewing near Lake Winnipesaukee, NH.  For that kind of event, I leave the complicated projects behind and focus on fun, easy, colorful projects.  Here’s what came out of the weekend:

Doesn’t get more colorful than this, does it?

The second project was a fusible kit by McKenna Ryan (Block 5 from “In Full Bloom).  These kits are great for retreats because it’s just tracing, cutting, and fusing with very little thought involved.

Design Wall Tuesday – #TQSBOM2016

I had an extremely productive weekend.  I went to the Geneva Point Center on Lake Winnipesaukee  for the Rising Star Quilters annual Spring Fling and three solid days of sewing. My first project of the weekend was to get caught up with The Quilt Show’s 2016 Block of the Month, a smaller replica version of the Rajah Quilt.

I had a false start with this project because I foolishly tried needle-turn applique for the center medallion.  After tossing that one and starting again with fusible, machine-stitched applique, the project went more smoothly and by Friday night, I had January, February, and March’s blocks/ borders complete.

My other project was to churn out some Carpenter’s Square blocks to become the quilt in the master bedroom of the house we built in 2009.  It’s so nice to be finally making quilts for my own bed!

Wild Quilting Weekend

The weekend before last found me holed up in a lodge with 19 other quilters just miles away from Keepsake Quilting for a few days of sewing and merriment. I hadn’t intended to spend the weekend working on stuff for my daughter, but I found a pattern at Keepsake from McCall’s that I just couldn’t resist:

I also made great headway sewing fairy blocks for her big girl bed quilt. (Yes, I think that I bought the fairy fabric long before I knew that I would have a daughter, but I am happy to give it over to her.)

Thank you to my fellow Spring Flingers for a wonderful (and productive!) weekend.
