Spring is a season of renewal, a time when nature reminds us that growth is always possible. As the world around us begins to bloom, I find myself reflecting on what I want to cultivate in my own creative life. Just like a garden, creativity requires planting seeds, nurturing them, and giving them the time and space to flourish.
This season, I’m focusing on nurturing a few specific areas of my creative life:
- Exploring Abstraction in My Quilts – I’ve spent years working with recognizable forms, but I’m feeling drawn to more abstract compositions. This shift feels both exciting and uncertain, like stepping into a new landscape without a map.
- Expanding My Art Practice – I want to play with new materials and techniques, allowing my curiosity to guide me rather than focusing on a finished product.
- Creating Space for Reflection – Creativity needs breathing room. I’m making a conscious effort to slow down, notice inspiration in everyday life, and give my ideas more space to develop before acting on them.

Not every idea will bloom, and that’s okay. Just as different plants require different environments, different creative ideas need different conditions to thrive. Here are a few ways I’m trying to nurture my own creative growth:
- Making Space for New Ideas – Just like clearing out a garden bed, sometimes I need to let go of old projects, habits, or mindsets to make room for new creative energy.
- Embracing Playfulness – Growth doesn’t have to be serious. I’m experimenting, making mistakes, and letting curiosity lead the way.
- Giving Ideas Time – Not every idea needs immediate execution. Some need to sit in the soil for a while before they’re ready to emerge.
- Staying Consistent – A little care every day goes a long way. Whether it’s setting aside ten minutes to create, journaling my ideas, or simply noticing inspiration in my surroundings, small acts of creativity build momentum over time.
- Celebrating Growth – Recognizing progress, no matter how small, helps me stay motivated. A single sprout is proof that something is happening beneath the surface.
